The Ministry of Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and Water Resource Management will host a Soil and Equipment Field Day, targeting small farmers and backyard gardeners, on Wednesday, May 30.

It will be held at the Central Agronomic Research Station on the Ministry’s compound, at Graeme Hall, Christ Church, beginning at 9:00 a.m.

A number of presentations will be made during the Field Day, focusing on composting, understanding the soil, nutrient management, soil and pest disease management and climate smart technologies and strategies.

The Soil and Equipment Field Day is being held in association with the Promotion of Regional Opportunities for Produce through Enterprises and Linkages (PROPEL) and the Barbados Agricultural Society (BAS).

The objectives are to exhibit small agricultural equipment that could be of use to small farmers or backyard growers; demonstrate the use of available agricultural equipment; and introduce new agricultural equipment that would enhance the efficiency of farmers and backyard growers.

Meanwhile, persons who have pieces of equipment they believe that can aid small farmers and backyard gardeners and may be interested in having them on display, are asked to contact the Ministry’s Food Crop Research and Development Department at 535-5100.
