It’s the last lap for this year’s Parish Talent Zonal Shows with the final preliminary scheduled for this Saturday, October 4, at the Grantley Adams Memorial School, Blackmans, St. Joseph, at 5:30 p.m.

The Parish Talent Zonal Shows are a showcase for some of the country’s best and brightest talent, with performances in dance, song, mime, poetry, and drama.

Finalists from the three preliminaries will go on to represent their parishes at the Spirit of the Nation Show on Saturday, November 15, at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex at 6:00 p.m.; and, according to officials of the Community Independence Celebrations Secretariat, this year’s event is shaping up to be one of the best ever.

First through to the finals were Jermaine Gittens from St. Philip, Andre Belle of St. Michael and Kimesha King of Christ Church while last weekend saw four more finalists added to the pool of performers.

Representing St. Lucy will be the group ‘C Plus’, who performed an original piece entitled “What they say”, which paid tribute to the parish. St. Andrew’s Primary School were also winners with “We Parish St. Andrew”, a song penned by teacher Yvonne Thompson which highlighted the pride of St. Andrew people and the places of interest within the parish.

Answar Gaskin will be St. James’ representative at this year’s Spirit of the Nation. He performed the self-written, original song “Nothing Sweeter”.

The popular dramatic piece ‘Pudding n Souse’, performed by Shavonne Dottin and students of the Gordon Greenidge Primary School, St. Peter also made its way to the finals.
