The Barbados Fire Service (BFS) will celebrate its 61st anniversary with a week of activities from Sunday, September 25, until Friday, September 30, under the theme: Focusing Towards a Safer Barbados.

The celebrations will start with a church service on Sunday, September 25, at the Western Light Nazarene Church, Oxnards, St. James, beginning at 8:00 a.m.

Focus will then shift to the Bridgetown Fire Station in Probyn Street, where members of the public are invited to join fire officers for a number of the events during the week.

On Monday, September 26, the station will come alive with a health and safety extravaganza from 10:00 a.m., as firemen encourage members of the public to pay closer attention to their health. This will be followed by the Firefighters’ Challenge on Tuesday, September 27, also from 10:00 a.m., and a Quiz Night, beginning at 7:00 p.m.

On Thursday, September 29, the rescue service of the BFS will be highlighted during a Simulation Exercise and Expo under the theme: Operation Raising the Bar. The simulation will commence at 9:00 a.m. in The City near to Upper Broad Street, while the expo will follow at 11:00 a.m. in Independence Square.

Activities will return to the Bridgetown Fire Station on Friday, September 30, when the Fire Service Sports and Social Club host its Sports and Fun Day featuring a number of novelty games from 10:00 a.m. This will be followed by a karaoke and social evening from 7:30 p.m. at the same location.
