Members of the public are invited to join firefighters from Barbados and across the region for a day of activities on Friday, May 10, at the Arch Hall Fire Station, Arch Hall, St. Thomas, from 9:00 a.m.

The day will feature a firefighting challenge divided into five stages, where competitors will have to simulate their activities during a fire operation while wearing full bunker gear and a self-contained breathing apparatus.

Firemen from various countries will also come up against each other on the extrication techniques employed, based on the damage to the vehicle. They will be assessed based on patient management, glass management and the correct means of stabilizing the vehicle.

The day’s activities will also see members of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) demonstrating how they handle an incident on arrival. This will involve competitors being assessed on their execution of cardiac pulmonary resuscitation, and their ability to administer medical attention.

Meanwhile, a demonstration showing the use of a tethered 24-hour drone is expected to draw much attention.  These types of drones can be useful in providing aerial coverage of incidents or events for a 24-hour period.
