The first business meeting of the recently launched National Youth Forum will be held this Saturday, July 17, in Lecture Theatre Three of the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus.

This disclosure has come from Minister of Youth, Stephen Lashley, who urged young Barbadians between the ages of 15 and 29 to attend this very important gathering, which will run from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

He made the comments over the weekend while addressing a ceremony for 14 children in the St. Michael North West area who were awarded the Lawson Weekes Educational Scholarship for excelling in this year’s Barbados Secondary Schools’ Entrance Examination.

Mr. Lashley told the gathering, which included parents: "This session will talk about the structure of the National Youth Forum and outline the focus, that is, where the young people want to go, in terms of the next point of discussion. It will also discuss how they will approach their review of the draft National Youth Policy."

The agenda for the meeting will include focus group discussions on nine "highly important" and current issues affecting young people, recommendations on how best to address them and a 15-member interim steering committee of the National Youth Forum will be identified.

Those persons who wish to participate in the business meeting should log on to the website, by this Thursday, July 15.

Minister Lashley stressed that the Forum was established to give young people an opportunity to get together and thrash out their concerns, which would then be forwarded to government.

A number of young people have already signed up to be a part of the Forum.
