Press conference and COVID-19 update with Minister of Health and Wellness, Lieutenant Colonel Jeffrey Bostic. (April 5, 2020)

The first six patients to recover from COVID-19 in Barbados left the isolation facilities today after two consecutive negative tests over the last two days.

The good news was shared this morning by Health and Wellness Minister, Lt. Col. Jeffrey Bostic, at a press briefing at Ilaro Court.

The Minister stated: “I am very pleased to announce to the nation that in the midst of all the distress, dislocation and the sad news of persons being infected, and our first death from COVID-19, we will see the emergence from isolation today of six persons who have recovered from COVID-19.”

He said this was a tribute to the quality of care and treatment provided by the medical teams, adding: “We celebrate this important milestone with these patients and their families with whom they can now be reunited.”

Today, 49 patients remain in isolation, four of whom tested positive yesterday. The positives yesterday included the 81-year-old man who subsequently passed away. The others are his 83-year-old wife, the seven-year-old daughter of a known case and a 21-year-old female, who returned from the United Kingdom on March 16.

Since March 16, Barbados has recorded 56 cases of COVID-19, 28 male and 28 female, aged seven to 83.
