Barbadians will have an opportunity to learn more about the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) this weekend, when Government takes its ???Stand Up Against Poverty Campaign’ to the City.

The Campaign is being hosted by the Office of the Advisor on Poverty Eradication, in conjunction with the United Nations Development Programme.

It will commence from tomorrow, Friday, September 17, with a seminar which is designed to sensitise members of the clergy and other interest groups on the MDGs. The session will be held at the Barbados Investment and Development Corporation’s Training Room, Small Business Development Centre, Fontabelle, St. Michael from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

On Saturday, September 18, a Community Expo will be held in Jubilee Gardens, Bridgetown, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. There will be displays by a number of social services from the Ministry of Housing, the Urban Development Commission, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Health. Representatives from various governmental and non-governmental organisations will also be on hand to conduct free health checks. There will also be entertainment to educate the public on the purpose of the initiative.

The activities will climax on Sunday, September 19, with a rally in Independence Square from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Members of youth organisations, the disabled community, the Barbados Association of Retailers, Vendors and Entrepreneurs and the Salvation Army are expected to make presentations at this event.????sharifa.medford@barbados.gov.bb
