???Barbados has been collaborating on the development of core values and principles that are geared towards embracing and empowering the youth.???

This is according to Minister of Youth, Stephen Lashley, who was speaking at the opening ceremony of the Royal Commonwealth Society???s 30th Anniversary Baton Relay Celebration yesterday at the Barbados Olympic Centre.

While congratulating the Barbados Branch of the Royal Commonwealth Society on reaching the milestone of 30 years, the Minister highlighted Barbados??? commitment to youth empowerment, noting that the country had in fact ???taken it a step further???.

???We have recognised the invaluable contribution to be made by the youth in the actual development of these very values and principles. Moreover, we are focused on engaging the youth in volunteerism, as well as in initiatives that are conducive to their own empowerment,??? he explained.

Mr. Lashley added that Barbados remained ???fully committed??? to the values of the Commonwealth and by extension to the empowerment and development of the youth.?????I must reiterate that I am very pleased about the involvement of the youth in the Relay, and I certainly encourage even greater participation by the youth in all facets of this Branch of the Royal Commonwealth Society in the future,??? the Minister stated.

To celebrate the organisation???s 30th anniversary, a relay race was held, starting at the Barbados Olympic Association and travelling along the South Coast, to end at the Grand Stand at the Garrison Savannah, St. Michael.
