As part of its ongoing efforts to control and reduce the presence of the deadly aedes aegypti mosquito on the island, the Ministry of Health’s Vector Control Unit will fog a number of districts in St. Michael next week.
Fogging will begin in the Bridgetown area on Monday, July 30, with Cheapside, Fontabelle, President Kennedy Drive, Pickwick Gap with Avenues, Westbury Road, New Orleans with Avenues, Wharton Gap, Marshall Gap, Beckles Land, Rock Gap, Spencers Gap, Chapman Lane, Emmerton Lane, Lakes Folly, Suttle Street, Cats Castle, Mason Hall Street, St. Mary’s Row, Kensington New Road, Tudor Street, Baxters Road and the surrounding areas scheduled to be sprayed.
The following day, Tuesday, July 31, the team will move further north to target Brandons, Brandons Beach, Brighton, Spring Garden Highway, Pile Bay, Carlton, Carlton Terrace, Black Rock Main Road, Straker’s Tenantry, Carter’s Gap, Danesbury, Retreat and the neighbouring districts.
On Wednesday, August 1, there will be no fogging as this is a public holiday.
Fogging resumes on Thursday, August 2, and this time focus will be on Waterford Housing Area, Bush Hall Main Road, Savannah Road, Park Road with Avenues, Mansion Road, Hill Road, Barracks Road, Powder Road, Bank Hall Main Road, Hindsbury Road, Station Hill with Avenues, Happy Cot, Buckingham Road, King George Road, King Edward Road, Queen Mary Road, Queen Victoria Road and the environs.
Fogging culminates on Friday, August 3, in Two Mile Hill, Morningside, Embassy Gardens, Haggatt Hall 1 & 2, Haggatt Hall Main Road, Bud Hill, Cozy Corner, Barkers Tenantry Road, Neils Tenantry, Rouen 1 & 2, Belle Gully, Howells Cross Road, Ivy, Storey Gap, Tichbourne and the surrounding districts.
Fogging will begin at 4:30 and end at 7:30 p.m. each day, and householders are asked to assist in the elimination of the aedes aegypti mosquito by opening windows and doors to allow the fog to penetrate.
Persons with respiratory problems should protect themselves from inhaling the fog, while pedestrians and motorists are advised to proceed with caution when encountering fogging operations on the street.
Parents are also advised to prevent their children from playing in the fog or running behind the fogging machine.
