An underwater and beach clean up will be held at the Folkestone Marine Reserve on Saturday, December 5, beginning at 8:30 a.m.

It is being hosted by the Folkestone Marine Reserve Action Group (FMRAG), a public and private sector association, formed to maintain and enhance the Folkestone Marine Reserve.

Divers will remove debris from the popular inshore reef sites of the reserve, such as the shipwreck, while beach volunteers will clean the beach from Sandy Lane in the South, to Colony Club in the North.

The FMRAG, was formed on October 28, at an Adopt-the-Reserve initiative meeting, which sought to build a partnership between Folkestone and the private sector.

The Adopt-the-Reserve scheme, a component of the community-based Coral Reef Monitoring and Management Project, seeks to strengthen the participation and capacity of stakeholders to improve management of the coral reef biodiversity and related resources at Folkestone.

For additional information, persons may contact John Nicholls at the Fokestone Marine Reserve at 422-2314.
