Barbadians and other residents are being encouraged to follow credible news sites as Tropical Storm Dorian continues its approach towards the island.

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley identified those credible sites as the Barbados Government Information Service, the Nation, the Barbados Advocate, the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation, Barbados Today, Voice of Barbados and Loop News.

Barbadians may also sign up to receive alerts and information through the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) via email notifications, or through an application on mobile devices.

Persons desirous of receiving alerts via email are asked to visit the Department of Emergency Management’s website at www.dem.gov.bb, click on the tab to the far right at the top, and then on the email sign up link.  Users would then be redirected to the CAP page where they should click subscribe.  They would then be required to enter and confirm their email addresses, before being asked to submit the information.

Once that process is completed, persons would be required to log into their email accounts and follow the instructions contained in the email.

Meanwhile, those persons seeking to sign-up via the android app, should go to the Google Play Store and search for CAP.CAP.  They should then click on the download and install button and open the app.  In the country tab, select Barbados and click save.

Those using Apple devices should navigate the Apple Play Store and search for CAPCAP or OPTIMIT, before clicking on the download and install button. They should open the app, and in the country tab select Barbados and then save.
