As a result of the power outages that have been affecting Barbados due to the passage of tropical storm Tomas, the Ministry of Health is reminding members of the public that frozen foods such as fish, meats, and meat products, once fully thawed, should be cooked?? and used.

Chief Environmental Health Officer, Tyrone Applewhaite, said that failing this they should be discarded.?? He added that dairy products and other refrigerated items should be similarly treated once they have returned to room temperature.

Mr. Applewhaite advised householders, also, to take precautions against possible cross contamination which could occur if drippings from thawed freezers fell on ready-to-eat foods in the chiller or crisper section of the refrigerator. clashley@barbados.gov.bb
