The Barbados Food, Wine & Rum Festival, scheduled for November 16 – 19, this year, has the potential to become one of the biggest foreign exchange earners for this country, in a few years.

Speaking during a recent interview, Minister of Tourism, Richard Sealy, said that while sports tourism had served Barbados better than any other niche, event-based tourism was a close rival in attracting visitors to the island.

He said the festival was such an example and had, in just three years, become a highly anticipated event on the local calendar.

"The Barbados Food, Wine & Rum Festival is going into its third edition this year. It attracted good numbers the first two times it was held. Without a doubt, the potential we have in that probably surpasses any other event. We had close to 2,000 people come for that event last year. Going into our third year, I think we can probably outdo that. I think the sky’s the limit in terms of where that festival could be in the next 10 years," Mr. Sealy asserted.

World renowned chefs and wine experts will come to the island to take part in the four-day festival, which also showcases the talents of Barbados’ best culinary artists.
