The David Thompson Memorial Constituency Councils Football Classic, a series of Out-of-Season Football tournaments in honour of the late Prime Minister, will kick off this weekend with an opening ceremony at the Gall Hill Sporting Complex, Gall Hill, St. John, starting at 5:00 p.m.

Thirty teams representing the Constituency Councils are expected to take part in the competition, which is being coordinated by the Department of Constituency Empowerment of the Ministry of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development.

Matches will take place on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, from Friday, October 21, to Sunday, December 4, the day of the final.?? The teams will play in six zones, named after outstanding national football players and administrators: Jerry Goddard; Victor ???Gas’ Clarke; Chrissy Smith; Reggie Haynes; Don Norville and Ansyl Marquez.

Prime Minister Freundel Stuart will deliver the feature address and inspect teams at the opening ceremony of the Football Classic this Sunday, October 16, at the Gall Hill Sporting Complex while, Minister of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development, Steve Blackett, will deliver remarks. Parliamentary Representative for St. John and wife of the late Prime Minister, Mara Thompson, will also give brief remarks.
