On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, I wish to extend sincere condolences to the relatives and loved ones of Ambassador Rashid Orlando Marville. 

Ambassador Marville did credit to his nation as a distinguished public servant with this Ministry, which he joined in 1973 when it was the Ministry of External Affairs.

Ambassador Marville brought to the Foreign Service his experience of teaching in Ghana and field service with UNESCO in Sierra Leone and a wide range of experiences built on his studies in Political Science, Cultural History, Anthropology and a Masters in African Studies.

He served with distinction at Embassy of Barbados at Washington DC, The Permanent Mission to the United Nations at New York, The Embassy of Barbados at Caracas and the Embassy of Barbados at Brussels.  

Ambassador Marville retired at the rank of Permanent Secretary and following his retirement had a stint as Assistant Secretary General to CARICOM, and served as an Independent Senator.

Ambassador Marville’s colleagues remember him for his love of languages, creative thinking and decision-making and for his wit, humour and cogent writing skills. May He Rest In Peace!
