A former officer with the Barbados Government Information Service (BGIS) has lauded the Tourism Awards ceremony, describing it as "a great idea on the part of the Ministry of Tourism".

Ronald Nurse, a top awardee at the Barbados Tourism Awards 2009 Gala, said: "The Awards are an extremely great boost for tourism, in that it allows all persons and businesses involved to aspire to the highest levels of service to visitors and locals, and to be acknowledged for the dedication and hard work put in by their team."

Mr. Nurse, who left the BGIS in 2004, to manage his own business, Exquisite Limousine Services Inc., won the prestigious Achievement of Excellence Award for Transport, at the event held June 6, at Ilaro Court.

While noting that it was his first tourism prize, the entrepreneur said: "The award is prestigious, granted to only the very best in the industry. It shows that my company … stands for total excellence in the delivery of service, so it will be a major feature in all of our marketing and promotional efforts, locally, regionally, and internationally.
