The work of foster parents will be highlighted within a few days when the Child Care Board (CCB) hosts a Foster Care Week to salute those outstanding care givers and share experiences of how their self-sacrificing spirit is impacting positively on the children’s lives.

Foster parents and their families will join the congregation at People’s Cathedral, Bishop’s Court Hill, St. Michael for a church service next Sunday, May 13, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

A workshop will be held on Wednesday, May 16, for approximately 25 foster parents and prospective parents, who are currently being assessed for the programme. It will be held at the Board’s Headquarters, Fred Edghill Building, Cheapside, under the theme Stressors and Coping Strategies.

Fostering a child means caring for him or her in a person’s home as part of the family, either on a short or long-term basis. The children come from the Board’s residences or from families in the society who are in crisis or under some degree of stress for various reasons, including a mother being hospitalised, the death of a parent or guardian, a child being abused or a parent’s inability to care for his or her offspring.

Persons interested in fostering should contact the Board at 425-2577.
