“Two centuries of quality education.” The description by principal of the Christ Church Foundation School, Roger Cumberbatch, in a succinct depiction of history of the institution as it celebrates its 200th anniversary. Mr. Cumberbatch said “the important milestone provides the opportunity for reflection, as well as a chance to celebrate our achievements and chart a course for the future.”

Highlighting the recent announcement that the school would soon be elevated to sixth-form status, Mr. Cumberbatch pointed out that “we are looking forward to educating a new crop of students in the tradition of excellence that the school has cultivated over the past 200 years”.

The Christ Church Foundation School will be hosting a series of activities over the coming months to celebrate the landmark, beginning with a church service this Sunday, September 14, starting at 4:00 p.m. at the Christ Church Parish Church, Church Hill, Christ Church. Other highlights include a panel discussion on October 1, entitled “The Amalgamation Experience”, panelists will include political scientist and former student, Peter Wickham; and researcher on gender issues at the Christ Church Foundation School, Dr. Hazel Lindo-Carrington.

On May 13, 2009, the school will host a lecture entitled “The Contribution of the Christ Church Foundation School to the Barbadian Society”, to be delivered by Judith Gill. July 10, 2009 is the date of the school’s Memorial Lecture; this will be delivered by Deputy General Secretary of the Barbados Workers Union, Robert ‘Bobby’ Morris, on the topic “The History of the Christ Church Foundation School”. The lecture will be held in the school hall.

Celebrations will culminate with an Anniversary Dinner on July 11, 2009 at Hilton Barbados, Needhams Point, St. Michael.
