Barbados will for the first time host a tech boot camp for entrepreneurs with an interest in learning how to launch a software-based company.

The one-of-a-kind business boot camp is a partnership between the Caribbean Development Bank, the World Bank and the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, through the National Council on Science and Technology (NCST).

The event, which was first held in Jamaica in 2015, is free to participants. It will be hosted at the Accra Beach Resort from Sunday, February 14, to Wednesday, February 17.

The purpose of the tech boot camp is to provide participants with business and product development tools and techniques to start building software-based companies. The NCST is inviting teams of at least two persons, involved in technology, to the event.

Participants are being encouraged to bring ideas and solutions for the development of software for any sector, including health, education and agriculture. They will be given three days with experts in various areas of business and product development for tech startups.

They will also be provided with information, strategies and insights to help them start and grow their digital business, as well as tools and support to create software products that generate revenues in a short period of time.

Experienced entrepreneurs from DevLabs, based in the Silicon Valley, California, as well as other international mentors, will facilitate the event and provide training on a range of tech business issues.

According to Director of the NCST, Charles Cyrus, it is hoped that at the end of the event participants will provide ideas for software that would lead them towards building a technology-oriented enterprise/business.

???This programme is about tech solutions, possibly in education, agriculture, food or health care, among others, not a focus on mobile apps. It is intended to expose young persons to the world of tech-entrepreneurship.

???This is an opportunity for invaluable training for young potential tech businesses. It is also an occasion for Barbadian entrepreneurs to learn how to launch a software-based company and potentially gain entry to an accelerator program in DevLabs itself,??? he explained.

Top teams will also be selected to move on to the Start-up Jamaica Accelerator Program, where they will have access to mentors, seed funding, advanced training and access to potential investors.??For further information, interested participants should call Mr. Cyrus at 427-1820, or email: charles.cyrus@barbados.gov.bb.
