The public is invited to a free Christmas Concert, hosted by the National Mental Health Commission, on Sunday, December 18, in Independence Square, Bridgetown.

The concert, which has as its theme: Treasuring Our Children, seeks to raise awareness about the needs of children with mental health issues.

It will run from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m., and will include performances by the Royal Barbados Police Force Band, Biggie Irie, Anderson “Blood” Armstrong, Joaquin Brewster and the Richard Stoute Teen Talent contestants. Also on stage will be Dancin’ Africa, Michael “Mikey” Mercer, Christine Carter and the Garden Quartet.

Persons attending are asked to bring an unwrapped gift for a child. Decorated barrels to receive gifts are also located at Cave Shepherd, Broad Street; Sky Mall, Haggatt Hall; and Massy Stores at Sunset Crest, St. James and Worthing, Christ Church.

The Commission identifies the concert’s objectives as raising awareness of the needs of children living in institutions; advocating the importance of good mental health for children; creating awareness of the need for healthy and safe environments for children to thrive; and promoting social and community support for children.
