Press conference hosted by Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley – March 31, 2021. (PMO)

Small and medium-sized businesses in Barbados will get an opportunity to participate in a series of free webinars.

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley said in a press conference last night that she had asked the National Training Initiative to host the webinars, which may include tips on how business people can innovate.

Ms. Mottley asked: “How are we going to get through this period? How are we going to innovate? How are we going to cope in challenging times for a business? Is there a need, for example, for persons to discount and to recognise that it is better to discount and sell some stock rather than letting the stock spoil and then having to write it off in accounting terms?  How can we get goods move?  How can we innovate in other ways?”

She also underscored the importance of having innovative businesses at this time, and suggested that outstanding business owners should share their experience at these sessions.

“I am hoping that we can get some of the regional titans in business and even beyond, so that they can come and share freely because we recognise that part of the difficulty is that people are … down pressed almost, with the weight of what has happened in the last year. And people perhaps can be given tips as to how best they can innovate and deal with business to keep it going.”

The Prime Minister stressed that it was necessary to keep businesses alive, and  noted that if a business closed, then it would be difficult to have it restarted.
