A visiting delegation from the French territory of Martinique has been learning more about the local fisheries sector.
The 70-member group took part in a tour of the Bridgetown Public Market on the Princess Alice Highway this morning to get a firsthand look at the setup and operation of the facility.
Among the areas visited were the processing hall, cold storage facility, the vendors’ area and the dock.
Led by Supervisor, Dean Agard, the delegation interacted with local vendors and fisherfolk and learned about local fish stocks; the boning and preparation of fish for sale and the process of transporting and storing fish.
The delegation is visiting Barbados to learn more about the island’s agricultural and agro processing sector. The group is made up of several persons who are involved in the Martiniquan agricultural sector including farmers, agronomists, agro processors and heads and members of agricultural cooperatives.
Each year the group visits a different Caribbean island to learn about new agricultural technology and explore the probability of trade with their neighbours.
