The Fair Trading Commission (FTC), in collaboration with the CARICOM Competition Commission, will host its 15th Annual Lecture on Friday, March 15, at the Hilton Barbados Resort, Needham’s Point, St. Michael, from 7:00 p.m.

Entitled Competition Authorities: Keeping Pace with Technology, Commerce and Consumers, it will be delivered by Deputy Chair of the Enforcement Decision Making Committee of the Bank of England, Dr. Philip Marsden.

Dr. Marsden is also a case decision maker at the Financial Conduct Authority, the Payment Systems Regulator and Office of Gas and Electricity Markets.

For 10 years, until October 2018, he held various roles at the UK competition authority.  First, as a member of the Board of the Office of Fair Trading, then as Inquiry Chair and Senior Director, Case Decision Groups, at the Competition and Markets Authority, where he decided on Phase II mergers, market investigations and antitrust cases, and post Statement of Objections. He was also a Board member of the Channel Islands Competition and Regulatory Authorities.
