The Ministry of Education, Technological and Vocational Training (METVT) is well on its way to implementing the online education platform G Suite for Education for the scheduled resumption of school on Tuesday, April 14.
In a recent update, it outlined the progress of the GSuite App, which will be administered across the public school system.
To date, the Ministry has completed the training of all Information Technology Coordinators (ITCs) assigned to public secondary and primary schools; created email addresses for all staff and students of public primary and secondary schools as well as for staff of all public nursery schools.
Additionally, public primary and secondary schools have either completed, or are in the process of issuing email addresses to their students.
The Ministry of Education has also instructed all schools to set up a separate email address to receive and respond to any queries from parents/guardians.
In order to ensure full utilization of the G Suite for Education, the ITCs continue to provide training for the staff of their schools.
The METVT will continue to provide support to the ITCs, by conducting additional online training sessions in the G Suite for Education platform to assist with onboarding the platform.
Teachers who require training, or retraining, should visit the Ministry of Education’s website www.mes.gov.bb, or the Media Resource Department’s website www.mrd.gov.bb for the dates and times of the training, and to register. These sessions will commence from April 6, 2020.
As part of the training process, resource materials have been created for teachers and students in the form of training manuals and instructional videos on the use of the G Suite for Education platform. These videos are available on the Media Resource Department’s YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/user/BarbadosMRD.
The Ministry said while it was aware that this was the Easter break for teachers and students, the teaching and learning process had to continue at the start of the new school term.
