Is gender-based violence a public health concern?
That question will be debated by health professionals and advocates later this week, during a panel discussion organised by the Business and Professional Women???s (BPW) Crisis Centre in collaboration with the Bureau of Gender Affairs.
The discussion will take place on Friday, September 19, at 6:30 p.m. at the Baobab Tower, Warrens, St. Michael, where featured speakers are expected to address the relationship between Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and HIV, among other health issues.
Panellists will include Assistant Director of Multicultural Education at Quinnipiac University, Connecticut, Sade Jean-Jacques; lecturer in the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of the West Indies, Madhuvanti Murphy and Gender Specialist Cherise Ajodha.
There will also be representatives from the Institute of Gender Studies, University of the West Indies and the Ministry of Health.??The discussion is part of activities planned for visiting faculty members from the Department of Cultural and Global Engagement of the Quinnipiac University.
Social Workers, Domestic Violence Advocates, Health Practitioners, Non-Governmental Organisations and persons who are part of the multidisciplinary GBV and Health network are especially invited to attend, as are members of the public.
