Members of the public are invited to attend an upcoming Genealogy Marketplace at the Archives Department’s Headquarters in Black Rock, St. James.

The event, which is one of the activities of this year’s Barbados Network Consultation (BNC) Fourth Diaspora Conference, will take place on Friday, August 5 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Patrons will be treated to several interesting and entertaining items throughout that day. There will be dramatic cultural presentations by various Barbadian performers and groups, including actress, Jennifer Walker and dance group, Dancin Africa.

Activities will also include traditional games such as Warri, stick licking and hopscotch and attractive door prizes will be offered. Additionally, there will be information booths with artefacts from various countries and groups including Barbados, Cuba, Panama, Brazil, Guyana and the Jewish and the East Indian Communities in Barbados.

The Genealogy Marketplace is intended to showcase the impacts of various ethnicities on the island of Barbados as well as to facilitate members of the diasporic community in sourcing family histories, allowing them to make connections and to network with persons who may be of assistance in their search.
