LAUNCH OF COMMUNITY INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATIONS THIS MONTH
Celebrations to mark this nation???s independence will focus on health this year, when the Community Independence Celebrations Secretariat launches the season under the theme Healing our Nation: A Healthier You and a Healthier Me, which will also be the theme of the parish project.
The official launch will take place on Saturday, August 31, at the Glebe Playing Field, Glebe, St. George from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The public will have the opportunity to actively participate in exercise and dance sessions, explore the farmers??? market and food court, and experience heritage tours. An art display and parade will also form part of the package.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR SIRIUS PROGRAMME
Creativity, energy and discipline are three traits that the Commission for Pan-African Affairs (CPAA) is seeking in applicants for its Social Identity-Renewal and Integrated Upliftment Strategy (SIRIUS).
Launched last December, SIRIUS is open to persons ages 18 to 35 and will provide successful applicants with leadership, entrepreneurial, project management and fundraising skills. They will also be introduced to a range of themes, including HIV and AIDS sensitisation, information technology and heritage awareness, and have the opportunity to implement nationally relevant projects and profitable business opportunities, including trade opportunities with Africa.
SIRIUS is a national, inter-ministerial and inter-agency project of the Ministry of Family, Culture, Sports and Youth, and was created to address some of the current, social challenges in Barbados, as outlined in the Draft Barbados National Youth Policy. This document suggested that a clear link exists between the increasing incidence of anti-social behaviour and the erosion of core values that have traditionally ensured peace and held society together.

NCST HOSTING INNOVATION WORKSHOPS
In an effort to encourage persons to participate in the National Innovation Competition, the National Council for Science and Technology (NCST) will be a hosting a number of free workshops, at venues across the island.
The discussions, aimed at promoting innovation in Barbados, will focus on Intellectual Property; From Innovator to Entrepreneur; and Accessing Funding for Your Enterprise. Past winners of the competition will also be on hand to share their experiences, and representatives from the NCST will be available to answer any queries regarding the competition.
All workshops will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., with the first being hosted tomorrow, Thursday, August 15, at the Ivan Harewood Centre, Christ Church Parish Church, Church Hill, Christ Church.
Next Tuesday, August 20, the Alexandra School, Speightstown, St. Peter will be the venue for the second session, followed by the Princess Margaret Secondary School, Six Roads, St. Philip on Tuesday, August 27.
