St. Joseph???s Residents Invited To Participate In Sports

The St Joseph Parish???s Independence Committee is offering residents of the parish and surrounding districts an opportunity to compete in a wide variety of sports.

Interested persons may choose from basketball, cricket, dominoes, football, hockey, netball and road tennis. All sports, except hockey, will be at competition level.??Additionally, each activity will be offered from Sunday, September 7 until Sunday, October 19.

Registration forms are available at the Tamarind Hall Branch Library, Eric Holder Jr. Municipal Complex, Horse Hill, St. Joseph. A nominal registration fee will be charged.

BDF???S Summer Camp Starts Monday

Eighty children will be exposed to basic military life through hands-on experience and observation when the Barbados Defence Force stages Camp Energy.

Adapting through Change is the theme of the camp which will be held from Monday, August 18 to Friday, August 29. Children of soldier/civilian employees who are between the ages of 5 and 14 will participate in the camp, which is now in its eighth year.

During the period, campers will also be exposed to lectures, have the opportunity to enhance their reading ability, engage in art and craft and visit several places of interest, among others.

There will also be a Sports Day on Thursday, August 28, at the Paragon Base, Christ Church, beginning at 9:00 a.m. The camp will end on Friday, August 29, with a closing ceremony at that same venue, commencing at 10:00 a.m.

Vendors Invited To Register For Official Launch

Registration is open for persons interested in vending at the Official Launch of the Community Independence Celebrations 2014.

The event will be held on Saturday, August 30, from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Oistins Car Park, Oistins, Christ Church.??Interested food vendors are reminded that they are required to have health certificates.

To register, persons should contact the Community Independence Celebrations Secretariat at 621-2700 no later than Friday, August 22.
