Financial Seminar for St. Thomas Entrepreneurs

Residents of St. Thomas and the surrounding districts who are self-employed, entrepreneurs or interested in starting a business, are invited to a financial seminar hosted by that parish???s Independence Committee.

It will be held on Wednesday, August 13, at the Holy Innocent???s Church Hall, St. Thomas, at 7:00 p.m., under the theme: How to take your business from Entrepreneurship to Enterprise leaving a multi-generational legacy.

The presenter for the evening will be Financial Advisor, Anthony Christie.

UDC Celebrating Its Anniversary Next Week

The Urban Development Commission (UDC) will be celebrating its 17th anniversary next week with several activities.

Building Sustainable Urban Communities in Barbados is the theme of the??celebrations, which will commence on Sunday, August 10, with a thanksgiving service??at St. Leonard???s Anglican Church, Westbury Road, St. Michael, at 9:30 a.m.

The following day, Monday, August 11, Chief Town Planner, Mark Cummins, will deliver a public lecture at the Urban Development Commission, Bridge Street Mall, Bridge Street, Bridgetown, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Mr. Cummins will discuss Building Sustainable Urban Communities in Barbados.

On Wednesday, August 13, there will be a UDC Market Day on the Chamberlain (Swing) Bridge, Bridgetown, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. There will be product displays by some local small businesses, with patrons getting an opportunity to purchase the exhibits. Health checks will also be available to the public during the day.

The week will climax on Thursday, August 14, with the Commission???s staff painting two classrooms and enhancing the garden at Wilkie Cumberbatch Primary School. The UDC will partner with Berger Paints and the Future Centre Trust to accomplish this project.

The UDC???s mission is ???to provide services and programmes that would assist in the alleviation of poverty, and to enhance the sustainable quality of life and high standards of living within the urban population???.

Implementation Launch of New System to Improve Customs

A new system which will improve the way the Customs and Excise Department does business will be introduced in the near future.

ASYCUDA (Automated System for Customs Data) World will replace ASYCUDA ++, which is currently utilised by the Customs and Excise Department.

The implementation launch of ASYCUDA World will be held next Wednesday, August 13, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Christopher Sinckler; Revenue Commissioner at the Barbados Revenue Authority, Margaret Sivers; and representatives of the Inter-American Development Bank and the United Nations will deliver addresses. There will also be a demonstration of ASYCUDA World.

The implementation of ASYCUDA World by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development is one of the several activities under the Barbados Competitiveness Programme, which is being executed by the Barbados Competitiveness Programme Implementation Unit.
