HEALTHY RECIPES NEEDED FROM ST. GEORGE RESIDENTS FOR CALENDAR

Residents of St. George are invited to submit healthy recipes to be used for the Stamp Out Disease & Live with Ease 2014 calendar.

The calendar is an initiative of the St. George Parish Independence Committee.

Persons may submit food, drink or dessert recipes which should contain at least one local ingredient by Friday, August 23, to stgeorgeindependencecommittee@gmail.com.

Entries may also be delivered to the Valley Resource Centre in an envelope addressed to the St. George Parish Independence Committee.

Entrants should include their name, telephone number and address on the recipe.

MINISTER OF YOUTH TO TOUR NATIONAL SUMMER CAMPS??

Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, Stephen Lashley, will tour some of the island???s National Summer Camps on Monday, August 12.

The touring party will visit summer camps at the following locations: Ann Hill School, Vauxhall Primary School, St. Judes Primary School and the St. Mark???s Primary School (the Nation Newspaper partnered Healthy Lifestyle Camp).

Transportation will be provided for tour participants.

The Ministry of Social Care, Constituency Empowerment and Community Development has advised athletes attending the 2013 National Senior Games Awards Ceremony tomorrow, Saturday, August 10, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre to be seated by 5:30 p.m.??

ST. LUCY GET UP! GET MOVING FROM HEAD TO TOE

Get Up! Get Moving from Head to Toe is the theme of the upcoming Health fair to be held at the Checker Hall Playing Field, St. Lucy, on Saturday, August 24, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m.

The event, which is being organised by the St. Lucy Constituency Council, is designed to help persons adopt a healthier r??gime by providing information on ways of reducing chronic diseases, particularly obesity. It also aims to encourage individuals to eat healthy home-cooked meals, and commit to engaging in a more active lifestyle.

Throughout the day, there will be a number of activities, including Zumba sessions; boot camp; treasure hunts; and challenges for the children, while representatives from various organisations will also be on hand to conduct health checks.

Live performances will be provided by Porgie and Murda, and persons are invited to donate a canned food item for the Team Mikey charity.

Residents of St. Lucy who are interested in participating or vending at the event, are invited to register by contacting Renee Payne at the Council???s office, Bentham???s, St. Lucy, at 439-8200.??
