Licences for Security Guard Agencies/ Private Investigators

Security Guards, Security Guards Agencies and Private Investigators have been reminded that their licences will expire on December 31, and by law must be renewed by January 31, 2014.

Section 14 Clause (1) and (2) of the Private Investigators and Security Guards Act states that no one may provide services as a private investigator or security guard; or operate an agency engaged in the business of providing the services of private investigators or security guards, unless he is licensed to do so.

Anyone guilty of contravening this law will be guilty of an offence and will be liable on conviction to a fine of $5,000 or imprisonment for two years or both.

Persons are reminded that a valid Police Certificate of Character must be submitted with the renewal application, and is valid for a period of six months.

Non-nationals applying for, or renewing licences must provide documentation verifying that they are a resident or citizen of Barbados or have a work permit which allows them to work as a security guard.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth is, therefore, inviting shoppers to Bridgetown on Saturday, December 21, to the Christmas Sidewalk Exhibition and Arts Market.

Being held at Heroes Square, The City from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., patrons will have an opportunity to purchase baskets, leather shoes, jewellery, locally made soaps and other items.

Artists displaying work include Victor Collector, Ray Garnes and Omowale Stewart.

Student Revolving Loan Fund Office To Close At Noon December 13

The office of the Student Revolving Loan Fund will close at noon on Friday, December 13, to facilitate a staff function.

Persons who wish to make payments to the Fund after the closure are advised that they may do so at Surepay, Republic Bank, RBC or the General Post Office.

Normal business will resume at the Student Revolving Loan Fund office on Monday, December 16, at 8:15 a.m.
