Primary School???s Bajan Afternoon at Springer Memorial

A Bajan Afternoon is what students at the Charles F. Broome Memorial Primary School will offer patrons who attend its evening of entertainment this Saturday, December 7.

The event will be hosted at Springer Memorial Secondary School, a stone???s throw away from the primary school on Government Hill, from noon until 6:00 p.m.

It is part of the school???s programme to mark this country???s 47th Independence celebrations.

From 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m., parents and their children will indulge in games such as hopscotch, marble pitching, skipping and dominoes. This will be followed by a half-hour performance from the 150-year old Barbados Landship Association from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m.

Students from Charles F. Broome will then entertain the audience through song, dance, mime, rhythm poetry, focusing on a variety of Bajan themes. They will place emphasis on folk songs, places of interest; the Bajan worker; national heroes and our customs/traditions, as well as folktales.

The school will also have on display a number of Bajan artefacts and it is expected that parents will showcase their skills of yesteryear through building a box cart, rollers, a pusher or scooter and engaging in fun activities with their children.

Road tennis will also feature high on the programme and there will be entertainment from Bobo, a top calypsonian in Barbados, and other performers.

Members of the public are invited to attend and support the Bajan afternoon, which will also see local delicacies, confectionery and drinks on sale.
