20/20 Tape-Ball Cricket Zone Champions To Compete This Weekend

Zone champions in the Youth Development Programme???s Christ Church West Central 20/20 Independence Tape-ball Cricket Tournament will face-off in the semi-final round of the competition this weekend.

On Saturday, December 7, at 9:00 p.m. at the Briar Hall Playing Field, Briar Hall, Christ Church, teams Rendezvous and Maxwell will compete against each other.

Two matches will be played the next day, Sunday, December 8, at that venue. Starting at 6:00 p.m., Zone One, 1st place winners, will compete against Zone Two, 2nd place; then at 9:00 p.m., Zone Two, 1st place winners will play against Zone One, 2nd place to secure a space in the finals.

The third place match will be played on Thursday, December 12, at 7:00 p.m. while the finals will be held on Saturday, December 14, at 6:30 p.m.

All games will be held at Briar Hall Playing Field, home of Maxwell Cricket Club.

Six Parishes To Compete In Inter-Parish Road Tennis Tournament

Six parishes have reached the play-offs stage of the National Sports Council???s Sports in the Community Inter-Parish Road Tennis Tournament.

The teams will compete against each other on Wednesday, December 11, and Friday, December 13, at the Bush Hall Hardcourts, St. Michael. Both games will begin at 7:00 p.m.

All are invited to attend.

Parish Ambassadors and Attendants Wanted!

Persons interested in serving as parish ambassadors and attendants for 2014 are invited to contact the Community Independence Celebrations Secretariat at 310-2700.

Applicants for the post of parish ambassador should be between the ages of 18 and 30, while attendants must be over the age of 26 years.

Candidates must have a sense of community pride, be willing to learn and work with others and should reside in the parish they wish to represent.

NACOSH Poster Competition Display Next Week

Come next week, Barbadians will be able to view the winning entries of the recently held National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health (NACOSH) Poster Competition.

They will be on display from Monday, December 9, to Friday, December 13, at the General Post Office, Cheapside, Bridgetown, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day.

The competition was held to promote the Safety and Health at Work Act which was proclaimed in January this year.

The theme was Safety for Life – It begins with you and was open to the public in four age categories: 8 – 11, 12 – 15, 16 – 18, and over 18.

Also on display will be the winning entry for the Globally Harmonised System (GHS) logo competition which was held during the same period.

NACOSH facilitates social dialogue on occupational safety and health issues in Barbados. The body was established in 1983 in accordance with the provisions of the Factories Act, 1982.

BDF Hosting Carol Service Sunday

Barbadians are encouraged to get into the Christmas spirit and join the Barbados Defence Force as it hosts a Carol Service on Sunday, December 8.

It will begin at 6:00 p.m. with carolling at St. Ann???s Fort, The Garrison, and those participating will walk from there to St. Matthias Church, via Hastings Road, Harts Gap, 2nd Avenue Harts Gap and St. Matthias Road.

Road Closure To Facilitate BDF Band Recording

The public is advised that The Garrison Road between Bush Hill and the Main Guard and the section of the road from Brigade House on Hastings Road to the Main Guard will be closed on Saturday, December 7, between 7:00 and 10:00 a.m.

This closure is to facilitate a recording by the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) Band.

The BDF has apologised for any inconvenience this closure may cause.

Beach at Folkestone Remains Closed Until December 13

The Folkestone Beach and car park will remain closed to the public until Friday, December 13.

This is to facilitate the completion of the construction work on the site. Therefore, persons are advised to continue avoiding the area as there is still a heavy presence of heavy duty equipment working on the site, making the beachfront area and roadway leading into Folkestone dangerous.

The work forms part of phase two of the Coastal Risk Assessment and Management Programme. Members of the public are urged to comply with all regulations.
