CTO Scholarships For Monroe College

Suitably qualified Caribbean nationals are being invited to apply for the Caribbean Tourism Organisation???s (CTO) Foundation scholarships.

Persons will be able to pursue a bachelor???s degree programme in hospitality management and a master???s degree in Tourism/Hospitality Management.

The full-time programme of study may be done at Monroe College in New York or at its campus in St. Lucia.

The scholarships will range from US $1,500 to US $6,200 per semester for studies in the United States. For students opting to study in St. Lucia or online, the scholarships will range from US $250 to US $1,500 per semester.

Further information about the application process for the scholarships, study grants and eligibility requirements and applications forms may be obtained from the CTO???s website at www.onecaribbean.org.

Completed application forms must be returned to the CTO???s headquarters, Ground Floor, Baobab Towers, Warrens, St. Michael, no later than Tuesday, April 1.

Additionally, applicants shortlisted for the scholarships and grants must show evidence that they can meet other expenses such as housing, meals, books and local transportation. They will also be responsible for securing the US F-1 Visa.

To maintain eligibility for the scholarship for its duration, the candidates are required to meet the academic requirements of Monroe College???s scholarship programme.

Orientation Session For Ministry Of Tourism Competition Participants

There will be an orientation session tomorrow, Thursday, February 20, for participants in this year???s Minister of Tourism???s Junior Minister of Tourism Speech Competition.

It will be held tomorrow, Thursday, February, 20, in the Ministry of Tourism???s conference room, Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Two Mile Hill, St. Michael, starting at 2:00 p.m.

During the meeting, which is being hosted by the Ministry of Tourism, the students will get an overview of the tourism industry, the rules of the competition and they will also hear about accessible tourism from ministry officials.

The Junior Minister of Tourism, Kezia Forde, will also address participants as well as Personal and Leadership Consultant, Toney Olton.

Data Communications Training At BDF

The information technology administrative capacity of regional Defence Forces is expected to be enhanced with the training of 14 military personnel in the area of Data Communications.

Sponsored by the Canadian and Barbados Governments, the four-week course will conclude this Friday, February 21, with a ceremony and graduation at the Barbados Defence Force, St. Ann???s Fort, Garrison, St. Michael.

The course attracted participants from Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, and Trinidad and Tobago.

Plants For Sale At Ministry Of Agriculture

The Soil Conservation Unit of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and Water Resource Management is inviting the public to purchase fruit trees at the Central Agronomic Research Station.

The research station is located on the Ministry???s compound at Graeme Hall, at the back of the administration building and past the old mill.

Patrons are invited to purchase a number of trees including strawberries, mango, avocado, dwarf golden apple, passion fruit, pomegranate, fat pork and sugar apple, among others.

Reminder For Cancer Forum

The public is reminded that a cancer forum targeting men, women and children will be one of the activities featured to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).

Under the theme: Cancer Below the Belt! What you need to Know! the event will take place tomorrow, Thursday, February 20, at the Grande Salle, Central Bank, beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Topics to be discussed include: what all men need to know about BPH & Prostate Cancer; how to get tested; what women need to know about cervical and other cancers below the belt; what symptoms should you look for and what is HPV.

Acting Consultant Gynae-Oncologist) at the QEH, Dr. Vikash Chatrani and Consultant Urologist also of the QEH, Dr. Jeetu Nebhnani, will be the featured presenters.
