BAGC Has New Executive

The Barbados Association of Guidance Counsellors (BAGC) has a new Executive Committee which was elected at its Annual General Meeting on Friday, January 17.

This committee comprises: President Janice Jemmott, Guidance Counsellor at Queen College; Vice President Saul Leacock, Guidance Counsellor at Darryl Jordan Secondary; Secretary Rosalin Gibson, Guidance Counsellor at Lester Vaughan School; Treasurer Julia Edey, Guidance Counsellor at Parkinson Memorial; Assistant Secretary-Treasurer, Karen Haynes, Guidance Counsellor at Christ Church Foundation School, and Floor Members, Shawna Carter of Alma Parris Memorial Secondary and Jenifer Goodridge of Ann Hill/Irving Wilson Schools.

The Association recently held another successful career showcase entitled: Embracing the Opportunity, from Wednesday, February 12, to Thursday, February 13, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Two Mile Hill, St. Michael.

It targeted third form students, selecting subject options for the Caribbean Examination Council???s (CXC) programme of study, as well as fifth formers exploring career and study options.

CTO Scholarship Foundation Applications Open

The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) Scholarship Foundation is now accepting applications for scholarships and study grants from Caribbean nationals pursuing tourism or hospitality studies at the post graduate level.

Prospective applicants can benefit from: Scholarships of up to US $12, 000 to pursue tourism or hospitality-related studies at the master???s level; study grants of up to US $2,500 for tourism/hospitality studies at the certificate, diploma, associate degree or bachelor???s levels.

A scholarship valued at US $2,500 is also being offered in the name of the CTO???s former Director of Research and Information Management, Arley Sobers, for persons working in local tourism organisations such as the Ministry of Tourism or the Barbados Tourism Authority.

Applicants may also apply for a scholarship up to a maximum of US $7,500 in the name of the late Audrey Palmer Hawks, a former Director General of the CTO based in New York, who was responsible for marketing the Caribbean as a tourist attraction to travellers in the United States and Canada.

Prospective students have the option of undertaking their studies within or outside of the region. All application forms are available on the CTO???s website www.onecaribbean.org.

Completed forms must be returned to the CTO headquarters, Ground Floor, Baobab Tower, Warrens, St. Michael, by Tuesday, April 15.

Hospital To Focus On Community Outreach

As part of its 50th anniversary celebrations, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital will host a community outreach at Queen???s College, Husbands, St. James on Saturday, March 15, at 5:30 p.m.

This activity forms part of that institution???s thrust to educate persons in the wider community about its available services.

Residents in the surrounding areas are invited to come out and hear the issues as well as share their views on the day-to-day running of the hospital, and also engage in discussions with regards to charting a path forward for the institution.
