Reminder For St. James Central Trade Show

Residents of St. James Central are being reminded that the St. James Central Constituency Council will host a joint public/private display of formal education and on-the-job training this Saturday, March 1.

It will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Hoyte???s Village playing field, St. James.

Through this initiative young Barbadians will be exposed to professional and practical skills in an effort to hone and improve their job prospects.

Under the theme: Closing the Gap: Building Skills for the Future, public and private sector organisations will provide formal education and practical hands-on-training to young persons, as well as teach them how to use integration techniques in the labour market to satisfy current and future employment needs.

During the day, a number of health and wellness services will be offered. There will also be cultural presentations, line dancing, and art and craft and pastry displays.

In addition, teams from the communities of Arch Hall, Redman???s Village, Bagatelle, Hoyte???s Village, Paynes Bay, Trents and Risk Road, will participate in a six-a-side football tournament, arm wrestling, tug-o-war competitions and fun races.

The aim of the initiative is to close the gap between education and vocational training; promote industry related services as future areas for employment generation and to promote employability competencies among young Barbadians.

Healthy Lifestyle Expo In City This Saturday

Barbadian workers will receive vital information on how to develop personal excellence this Saturday, March 1, when an initiative entitled: Taking Service Excellence to the Streets and Healthy Lifestyle Expo is held in The City.

Officials from The Productivity Council, Office of Public Sector Reform, the Barbados Workers??? Union and the Barbados Employers??? Confederation will be involved in the promotion which commences at 11:00 a.m. They will interact with people along Broad Street, Roebuck Street, High Street and Fairchild Street.

This is the final event being held to observe the Week of Excellence which has as its theme: Embracing and Supporting Initiatives for Recovery: Challenges and Solutions in Charting the Way Forward.

The Week of Excellence Programme seeks to increase productivity awareness and excellence across the various sectors and give stakeholders an opportunity to participate in critical dialogue on those issues.

Constituency Council Meetings Continue

The biannual Town Hall meetings of the Constituency Councils will continue this weekend, commencing with that of the St. Philip West Constituency Council, on Sunday, March 2. It will take place at the Princess Margaret Secondary School, Six Roads, St. Philip at 4:30 p.m.

The St. Philip South Constituency Council will also hold its meeting at that location on Sunday, March 9, beginning at 5:00 p.m.

Residents of these constituencies are encouraged to attend and participate in the discussion, which will address various issues pertaining to their communities. Members of the Council will also report on the projects and programmes which have been, and will be, established.

Ministry Of Agriculture To Host Plant Clinic At Agrofest

The Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with the Commonwealth Agricultural Bureau International, will host a plant clinic for persons who wish to improve food security by reducing crop losses.

It will take place at Agrofest on Saturday, March 1, and Sunday, March 2, from 10 00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. each day.

Persons are asked to bring their sick plants to the clinic as representatives from the ministry will be on location to answer any questions on plant health from farmers and householders.

St. Jude???s Primary School Postpones African Awareness Day

St. Jude???s Primary School has postponed its African Awareness programme which was scheduled to take place tomorrow, Friday, February 28. It will now be held on Monday, March 3, beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Activities will include a cornrow hairstyle competition; modeling competition for boys and a display of African artifacts, food, hairstyles and history.

Students are, therefore, asked not to dress in African garb tomorrow, but on Monday.
