Africentric and Cultural Expo For Black History Month

In honour of Black History Month, the SIRIUS programme of the Commission for Pan-African Affairs will host an Africentric and Cultural Expo at the Old Spirit Bond in The City.

The event, which will be held during the entire month of February, will run Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. However, on Saturdays, it will commence at 11:00 a.m. and end at 7:00 p.m.

Patrons will be able to purchase African inspired art and craft, learn about natural and herbal health remedies, relax in the pop-up sap and enjoy beauty treatments such as massages with healing properties.

A variety of African books will be on sale. Children are encouraged to attend as there will be storytelling and fun, self-esteem building activities.

In addition, students of the Barbados Community College???s Fine Arts programme will exhibit their work at the expo. Persons are invited to make donations towards the students in aid of a tour they are planning to Ghana.

Patrons are also encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for the HIV Food Bank.

BIDC Offering Courses

Members of the public will now have an opportunity to learn a skill or earn additional income when the Barbados Investment & Development Corporation (BIDC) offers courses in three craft disciplines ??? wood work, basketry and leather craft.

The courses will run from February 18 to April 10, on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. at Unit 2B, Building 2, Pelican Industrial Estate.

Interested persons may register at the BIDC headquarters, Pelican House, Princess Alice Highway, Bridgetown, Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
