Labour Department Seminar This Thursday
Industrial relations best practice will be the focus of a Labour Department seminar which will be held this Thursday, January 23, on the 2nd Floor, Warrens Office Complex, Warrens, St. Michael, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The seminar, which is also part of the department???s ongoing efforts to promote better labour/management cooperation, will be an opportunity for employers and employees to discuss pertinent pieces of labour legislation and examine their impact on the workplace.

Final Four Sessions of Town Hall Meetings On BSSEE
Parents and guardians who have not yet attended one of the town hall meetings on the Barbados Secondary Schools’ Entrance Examination (BSSEE) have the last chance to do so this week.
The familiarisation sessions will conclude with penultimate meetings at A. Dacosta Edwards Primary and Eden Lodge Primary Schools on Thursday, January 23, and the final two at St. John???s Primary and St. Joseph???s Primary Schools on Saturday, January 25.
All meetings begin at 5:00 p.m.
They will be addressed by Senior Education Officer, Glyne Price and Education Officer, Everton Briggs, who will sensitise parents and guardians to the processes involved in the administration of the BSSEE, familiarly known as the Common Entrance Examination or 11 Plus.
Instructions will also be given on how to fill out the forms used in the examination, including the choice of school, deferral and special requests.
Performance Management Systems Training This Thursday
Thirty managers and key personnel from eight statutory corporations will soon be given the necessary tools to help them improve performance, productivity and efficiency in their organisations through the use of performance management systems.
They will undergo training this Thursday, January 23, at the Island Inn Resort, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Minister of Labour, Senator Dr. Esther Byer Suckoo, and Executive Director of the National Productivity Council, John Pilgrim, will deliver addresses.
The objective of the workshop is to facilitate the establishment of performance systems and technical support mechanisms in key public service organisations.
Some of those institutions are the Barbados Water Authority, the National Petroleum Corporation, the National Housing Corporation, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation.
This session is being facilitated by The Productivity Council, the Office of Public Sector Reform, the National Initiative for Service Excellence, the Barbados Light & Power Company Ltd. and labour representatives.
BAGC???s National Careers Showcase Launch January 24
The Barbados Association of Guidance Counsellors (BAGC) will officially launch its Ninth National Career Showcase this Thursday, January 23, in the Graduate Studies Room GR11, UWI, Cave Hill Campus, St. Michael (near the Lazaretto, Black Rock) at 2:00 p.m.
A representative from the Caribbean Development Bank will be the featured speaker. President of BAGC, Janice Jemmott, will also address the launch.
The National Career Showcase 2014 will be held at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre from Wednesday, February 12, to Thursday, February 13, for third and fifth year students in all public and private secondary schools.
It is expected to attract over 100 booths highlighting traditional and non-traditional careers, with the aim of ensuring students are given the best chance to broaden their scope as they plan for future careers.
