12 to 18 Month Courses at UWI Open Campus in September

A number of 12 to 18-month certificate programmes will be offered by the University of the West Indies (UWI), Open Campus in September.

The 12-month courses include Corporate Administration, Guidance Counselling and Marketing, Public Relations and Advertising; while the 18-month programmes are Human Resource Management and Project Management.

The deadline for applications is Wednesday, July 31.

Land Tax Bills 2013-2014 to be Issued in August

Land tax bills for the year 2013-2014 are set to be issued by Monday, August 12.

Payments made in full on or before Wednesday, September 11, will benefit from a 10 per cent discount; while those made on or before Friday, October 5, will see a five per cent discount applied.??

In addition, persons requesting agricultural rebates are advised to begin the application process early, in order to benefit from the 10 per cent concession.

While bills may be paid at the main office of the Land Tax Department, 1st Floor N.I.S. Building, Fairchild Street, Bridgetown, persons are encouraged to make payments at the Oistins or Holetown branches, as the air-conditioning at the N.I.S. location is under maintenance.

Education Officers to Get Training in Use of Technology

In a continuing effort to enhance the skills and knowledge of staff in the area of technology, the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, will host a one-day workshop for its education officers on Wednesday, July 24.

Jointly sponsored by Illuminat Barbados Limited and IBM Education Solutions Canada, it will be held under the theme Effective use of Technology— Building Capacity and Empowering Teachers in the Training Room at Illuminat (Barbados) Limited, White Park Road, St. Michael.

Training starts at 9:30 a.m. and runs until 3:30 p.m.

A key objective of the workshop is to provide participants with the opportunity to gain insight into the effective use of technology as a teaching tool while equipping them with new skills to undertake their roles in the Ministry.

Parliamentary Secretary, Senator Harry Husbands, will deliver remarks at the opening of the workshop at 9:30 a.m.

Pattern Design Workshop at SJPP in August

A two-week national training workshop in Pattern Design and Garment Construction Techniques will be conducted next month by the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic (SJPP) in collaboration with the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) via its Caribbean Technological Consultancy Services Network.

The workshop will be held at the SJPP from August 12 to 23. It will run from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. daily.

The training is expected to benefit persons who already have sewing skills as well as those employed in the field. It will also provide participants with the skills and knowledge to develop patterns from a block, using basic patternmaking principles.

Participants will also learn useful sewing techniques and will be required to work in groups and individually. At the end of the session, they will be issued with a certificate which can be used to gain access to the Polytechnic???s advanced level training.

Chairman of the Board of Management of the SJPP, Desmond Browne and a representative of the CDB will deliver remarks at the opening of the workshop on Monday, August 12 at 9:00 a.m.
