BADMC???S JULY SOUTHERN FARMERS??? MARKET

The Barbados Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (BADMC) is inviting everyone to support local farmers, at its July Southern Farmers Market.

It will take place at the Fairy Valley Plantation House, next to the DHL Building, Christ Church, on Friday, July 26, and Saturday, July 27, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. each day.

Persons will have the opportunity to purchase a variety of local fresh fruit, vegetables, herbs, milk, eggs and meats. There will also be jams, oils, wines, plants and flowers among other items on sale.

Patrons will also have the opportunity to have their blood pressure, blood sugar and Body Mass Index checked by the Knights Advantage Club.

Educational programmes and tours of the Market have also been designed for summer camps.

Camp coordinators and farmers interested in participating in the farmers market are asked to contact Kelly Ann Gibson at 428-0250 or 428-0251to book a tour or space. The deadline for registration is next Wednesday, July 24.

BDF DISASTER TRAINING EXERCISE

The public is advised that the Barbados Defence Force (BDF), in conjunction with the crew of the French vessel Dumont d???Urville, will be conducting a beaching and post disaster exercise on Sunday, July 21.

It will be staged in the area south of M.G. Tucker and Company Limited, on Brownes Beach, St. Michael, commencing at 2:30 p.m. and lasting for approximately one hour.

The exercise is in keeping with the BDF???s mandate to ensure that all of its personnel are equipped to respond to various kinds of disasters.

PUBLIC URGED TO COMPLY WITH INTERNATIONAL MAIL REQUIREMENTS

The public is reminded that all packets, parcels, bulky letters and express mail items addressed to recipients overseas must be presented unsealed at postal counters for inspection of the contents before they are accepted for transmission by the Post Office.

In addition, the public is advised that a detailed and accurate customs declaration must also accompany the item.??

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF EASTERN SECTION OF ENTERPRISE BEACH

Members of the public are advised to avoid using the eastern section of Enterprise Beach, Christ Church, which will be temporarily closed on Saturday, July 20, and Sunday, July 21, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on both days.

This is to facilitate tree maintenance being conducted by staff of the National Conservation Commission in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport and Works.

Management of the NCC has apologised for the inconvenience this work may cause.

MEN???S FORUM ON HIV NEXT TUESDAY, JULY 23

All men are invited to join the Bureau of Gender Affairs in a discussion on the Response to HIV, next Tuesday, July 23, at the Frederick Smith Secondary School, Trents, St. James.

The Men???s Forum is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. HIV educator, Hughson Inniss will focus on the impact of masculinity in response to HIV, while Director of the Urban Development Commission, Dereck Alleyne, will discuss the fears and beliefs men have in relation to HIV. Branston Clarke, a member of the Barbados Family Planning???s Men???s Association, will also be on hand to discuss the role of his organisation in supporting men???s advocacy.

ST. JAMES TALENT SHOW POSTPONED

The St. James Parish Independence Committee has advised that the Parish Talent Show which was scheduled to take place tomorrow, Saturday, July 20, has been postponed.

However, the Committee is inviting persons to audition for the show. Auditions will be held on Wednesday, July 24, at the Learning Centre, beginning at 5:00 p.m.

SUPREME COURT GOES ON VACATION IN AUGUST

Members of the public are advised that the Supreme Court of Barbados will be on official vacation for one month, from Thursday, August 1, until Saturday, August 31.

However, during this period, persons will still be able to conduct applications of extreme urgency, applications for bail or habeas corpus and receive the delivery of reserved judgments. The sentencing of convicted persons will also continue during this period.
