Health Awareness Project In St. George This Month

Persons living in St. George and the surrounding areas are encouraged to come out and participate in the St. George South Constituency Council???s Health Awareness Project, which will involve a number of activities during the month of June to encourage persons to adopt a healthier lifestyle.

Activities begin on Saturday, June 21, with a walk through the constituency, beginning at Ellerton Playing Field, at 5:00 a.m.

On Tuesday, June 24, there will be a presentation on heart attacks and strokes by Sonia Sullivan of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Barbados at the Ellerton Wesleyan Holiness Church, Eustace Lashley Road, at 7:00 p.m.

Persons can also participate in free aerobic sessions beginning Monday, June 30, and continuing every Monday and Wednesday on the Ellerton Playing Field, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Interested persons can contact Deputy Chairman of the St. George South Constituency Council, Heather Fields, at 241-4793 or Pedro Richards at 262-6518 for further information.

Deadline For FCCA Essay Entries Approaching

Students in primary and secondary schools who are desirous of submitting essays for the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association???s essay competition have just over two weeks to get their entries in.

Contestants in the age categories of 12 and under and 13 to 16 will get an opportunity to impress the judges with their well-researched thoughts on the topic: Why is it Important that Cruise Ships Come to my Destination (Barbados)???To be eligible, contestants in the junior and senior divisions must not have celebrated their 13th and 17th birthdays by September 26, 2014.

Entry forms should include the following: country, names and addresses of the students, their date of birth, telephone number, the name and address of their school, the name of the school principal and the school???s telephone number.??Entries can be submitted in the student???s handwriting or typed double-spaced in Times New Roman font, size 12.

The participating schools may submit a maximum of five essays per category, and original entries should be sent to the Ministry of Tourism and International Transport, Two Mile Hill, St. Michael, no later than Friday, June 20.??Further information on the contest may be obtained by contacting Marsha Armstrong at 430-7500/31/55.
