Changes To Fire Service

Members of the public are asked to note that the Barbados Fire Service (BFS) headquarters has been relocated to Level 5, General Post Office Building, Cheapside, Bridgetown.

The Chief Fire Officer, administrative and support staff from the Probyn Street location will now be located in the new offices at Cheapside, and can be reached at 434-7800.

Meanwhile, the building at Probyn Street, The City, which previously housed the headquarters, will now be the Bridgetown Fire Station.??Persons can contact the station by calling 426-3504 or 426-3509, or the hotline number at 311.

Food Safety Symposium In Jubilee Gardens

Food service providers and food vendors who will be offering their services at Crop Over events this year, are invited to a symposium to be held in Jubilee Gardens, Bridgetown, on Thursday, June 19.

There will be lectures on food safety by environmental health officers of the Ministry of Health, as well as cooking demonstrations by Chef Peter Edey and a skit by the Environmental Health Department.

In addition, there will be displays of food service products and other materials of interest to the vendors. The event will run from 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Sign Up Now For Junior Fire Cadet Programme

Opportunities are open for children between the ages of 12 and 15 to sign up for this year???s Junior Fire Cadet Programme, hosted by the Barbados Fire Service (BFS). It runs from Sunday, July 13, to Friday, August 15, at Harrison College.

The objective of the programme, now in its 14th year, is to develop young leaders with high moral values, and is designed to expose them to the culture, functions, discipline and customer-related services of the BFS.

Courses taught during the five-week programme will include First Aid, water survival and rescue, squad drill, knots and lines, hose and hydrant drill, knowledge and use of extinguishers, and a positive development session and drama.

Space is available for 24 students from all schools across Barbados, and interested persons are asked to download application forms from http://www.fireservice.gov.bb.

The user can navigate to the menu ???Research/Publications???; click on the drop down tab marked ???Forms???; and click on ???Application to the Junior Fire Cadet program???.

Application forms must be returned to the Bridgetown Fire Station, Probyn Street, The City, on or before Friday, June 27.
