Students To Receive Awards For Literary Work

Students who participated in the School???s Literacy Challenge 2013 are set to receive their awards for their story-book entries in that competition.

The Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation will host the awards ceremony in the Main Conference Room of the Elsie Payne Complex on Wednesday March 26, at 10:00 a.m.

Deputy Chief Education Officer, Planning and Development, David Clement will deliver the feature address at the ceremony that will also be attended by senior ministry officials.

The School???s Literacy Challenge 2013 ran from July to September and encouraged students, from nursery to secondary, to showcase their creativity through writing folk tales, fantasy, myths, fiction and sports stories, among others.

The story-book writing competition is an initiative that was simultaneously launched with the National Policy on Reading, in 2007. It is designed to encourage students to tap into their creativity and explore writing of all kinds.

It also provides an additional avenue for motivating and exposing young writers to members of the society.

Inaugural Meeting For Task Force on Friday

Government???s National Task Force on Business and Trade Facilitation will hold its inaugural meeting on Friday, March 21, at 10:00 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Division of Commerce, Reef Road, St. Michael.

Minister of Industry, International Business, Commerce and Small Business Development, Donville Inniss will chair the meeting, at which matters pertinent to the effective functioning of the Task Force will be discussed.

The Task Force was established to assist with the smooth and efficient implementation of prospective investments, both local and foreign, in Barbados.
