Character Day At St Boniface Nursery School

Wednesday, May 28, has been dubbed Book Character Day at St. Boniface Nursery School, Sion Hill, St. James.

It is a day when students will be dressed in costumes like their favorite characters from a story book of choice and display their literacy skills.

Explaining the concept, Principal, Valerian Millar, said: ???We want to encourage students to improve their reading skills and learn how to express themselves through various ways, and we also want to assist in developing their creative talents; [and] to encourage self-confidence. It will help them understand the link between the written and spoken language and assist them in developing a love for stories.???

The theme for the day is The Adventures of Story Land and the event aims to help pupils develop a love and appreciation for reading and reading materials as well as to improve their language.

Senior Education Officer, Joy Adamson, will deliver remarks at the opening at 10:00 a.m. Book Day runs until 3:00 p.m.??Meanwhile, the school will also have an Open Day on Thursday, May 29. Parents, guardians and members of the school???s community are especially invited to attend the Open Day from 10:00 a.m. until 11.30 a.m. and again from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

The events form part of the activities in celebration of Child Month, which began at the school with a religious service and also includes a Reading Week from Monday, May 12 until Friday, May 16.

Christ Church Girls??? Exhibition On My Neighbourhood Tomorrow

Christ Church Girls??? School will host an exhibition of projects produced by Class 1 students, tomorrow, Thursday, May 8.

The exhibition, which will showcase models of the children???s community, follows their completion of a unit of the Social Studies syllabus on social interaction.??Social Studies Teacher of Class 1, Natalie Rowe coordinated the project which is themed My Neighbourhood. It will get under way at 10:00 a.m. at the school in Water Street, Christ Church.

Principal Heather Bryan, noting that students used various materials to depict three-dimensional aspects of their community, praised the level of parental involvement seen in the projects.??

???You will see that both the parent and child would have worked together to produce these and their dedication and enthusiasm also shows in the displays. To us this was a way of getting parents involved,??? she noted, while acknowledging that the school prides itself on parent involvement and parent-teacher relations.??
