Fish Competition For Secondary Schools

Some of this island???s secondary schools will test their students??? culinary skills in the Fisheries Division???s annual Fish Dish Competition, tomorrow, Thursday, May 15.

It will take place in the Training Room of the Fisheries Division on the Princess Alice Highway, Bridgetown. The viewing of exhibits will begin at 11:30 a.m., while judging will start at noon.

The competition is designed to provide an opportunity for young people, particularly fourth formers, to show their creativity in fish preparation; encourage the consumption of fish; promote its nutritional benefits, and to promote the awareness of the various local fish species.

Schools may submit up to three entries and have a choice of soups/ appetizers, salads, entrees, beverages, pastries or condiments.

Points will be awarded for originality, creativity, taste and texture and presentation. First, second and third prizes will be awarded.

Competition In Search Of Best Handwriting In Primary School

Good handwriting skills are being encouraged in the 3rd Primary School Handwriting Competition.

Sponsored by Isaiah 55 Centre for Spiritual & Developmental Training in conjunction with the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, the competition is open to children in three age categories: namely six to seven; eight to nine and 10 to11 years.

Students must provide a sample of their best handwriting style, using the Handwriting Text provided to primary schools by the sponsors. They should pay close attention to rewriting the text in its entirety as they could be disqualified.

Competitors must write with pencils and their handwriting must be legible and neat. No markers are allowed.??Entries must be submitted on foolscap paper, 8.5 by 11 inches only and margins should be one inch on all sides of the paper. This must then be attached to the application form which is available at schools.

Schools are required to submit no more than two entries per category. These must be submitted by June 2 in a sealed envelope marked ???Handwriting Competition??? and addressed to: Attention: Mrs. Cassandra Bowen, ???Isaiah 55 Centre For Spiritual & Developmental Training, ???Georgia???, Mansion Road, Bank Hall, St. Michael.

The Handwriting Competition will be judged on flow, consistency, legibility, individuality, layout, neatness, style and flair of handwriting. Prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners for excellence in penmanship in each age category. The judge???s decision is final.

Special Offer For International Museum Day This Sunday

Visitors to the National Heroes Gallery, in the West Wing of Parliament Buildings on Sunday, May 18, will only have to pay half price to view the exhibits.

The special offer of $5 comes as part of celebrations to mark International Museum Day and the Gallery hours will be from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m. on that day.

The Museum of Parliament and the National Heroes Gallery are open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The regular fee is $10 for adults, while children are admitted free of charge.
