Shelter Management Workshop June 2 And 4

Ensuring proper management of emergency shelters will be high on the agenda when the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, in collaboration with the Office of the United States Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA), conducts training for shelter managers next month.

Two shelter management workshops will be held at the Accra Beach Hotel and Spa, Rockley, Christ Church, on Monday, June 2, and Wednesday, June 4. The sessions will run from 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. daily.

The workshops will place emphasis on the effective running of a Shelter; how to manage the facility to ensure compliance with rules and regulations and how to ensure the safety of a shelter???s population.

Chief Education Officer, Laurie King, who is also the Chief shelter Warden, will open both workshops and there will be presentations by the Department of Emergency Management. Trained USAID/OFDA/LAC-IRG principals of shelter management will be facilitators.

Bellairs Research Institute Open House & Tours

As part of the global celebration of World Environment Day, members of the public are invited to attend a series of open houses and participate in a Collective Culture of Sustainability tour at the Bellairs Research Institute of McGill University in Holetown, St. James.

The series of open houses and tours will begin on Tuesday, June 3, and continue on Wednesday, June 4, and again on Friday, June 6. They begin at 10:00 a.m. daily and are designed to highlight Barbados??? coral reef ecosystems.

On World Environment Day, Thursday, June 5, members of the public are also invited to a lecture entitled: Feeding Ourselves Now and In the Future: Reality or Not?, at the Grand Salle of the Central Bank of Barbados, Church Village, St. Michael, beginning at 4:00 p.m.

The lecture is being held under the patronage of the Governor of the Central Bank, Dr. Delisle Worrell and his wife Monica Drayton.
