World Town Planning Day To Be Celebrated Friday, November 8

The role of planning in creating communities will be highlighted when World Town Planning Day is observed Friday, November 8, under the theme Water and Planning.

As part of activities for the day, the Town & Country Development Planning Office will provide staff and the public with an opportunity to have their blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol checked. These checks will be carried out at the Town & Country Development Planning Office, Block C, Garrison, St. Michael, on Thursday, November 7, between 9:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.

The following day, Friday, November 8, the Town & Country Development Planning Office will host a seminar for 130 sixth form students involved in the CAPE Environmental Studies Programme.

It will be held at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex at Wildey, St. Michael, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and the topics to be examined include The Role of the Planning Office in the Environmental Impact Process and Amendments to the Water Zones.

World Town Planning Day is commemorated annually on November 8 in 30 countries on four continents.

May/June CXC Certificates Now Available

The Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation has advised all private candidates who wrote the May/June 2013 CXC Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination to collect their certificates from the Examinations??? Department at the Ministry???s Headquarters, Elsie Payne Complex, Constitution Road, St. Michael, from Monday, November 4.

The certificates may be collected weekdays, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Students must present their picture ID card on collection of their certificates.

Meanwhile, the Ministry is also urging persons who wrote examinations in January 2013, and have not yet collected their certificates, to do so.

Small Business Development Workshop Concludes Next Week

Come next week, the Ministry of Industry, International Business, Commerce and Small Business Development, through its Small Business Development Unit, will facilitate the final training session in the implementation of the Small Business Development Model (SBDM).??

The session, which will conclude on Thursday, November 7, at the Savannah Hotel, is an initiative which has been facilitated through the US Department of State, the University of San Antonio, the Organisation of American States and Caribbean Export.
