Alexandra & St. Michael???s Into Finals of BAC Debate

Two schools have advanced to the finals of the Barbados Accreditation Council???s (BAC) National Secondary School Debate Competition.

After a heated three rounds of debate, The St. Michael School and Alexandra emerged as the teams to face-off at the finals on Wednesday, November 27, at the Barbados Public Workers Cooperative Credit Union (BPWCCU), Belmont Road, St. Michael at 12:30 p.m.

The two will debate the moot: The Extensive Use of Social Media Has a Negative Impact on the Quality of Written Expression.

According to BAC, the moot is timely and relevant as the use of abbreviated spelling on social media is being blamed for a decrease in written expression in schools and the workplace.

The debate promises to bring to light the impact of social media on the communication skills of the society. Chairman of the Council, Yvonne Walkes, will deliver the opening remarks at the start of competition.

Parents, guardians and members of the public are welcomed to attend the debate.

Twelve Schools Vie For Road Tennis Championship

Twelve of this island???s schools will participate in this year???s Inter-School Road Tennis Competition, which gets under way on Wednesday, November 20, at the National Sports Council, Blenheim, St. Michael, from 3:30 p.m.

The schools are: Queen???s College, Lester Vaughan, Christ Church Foundation, Ellerslie, Alleyne, Combermere, Princess Margaret, St. Leonard???s Boys, Coleridge & Parry, Frederick Smith Secondary, Alma Parris, and the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic.

All road tennis supporters, families of the participants and the public are invited to attend.

Island-Wide Road Tennis Playoffs Continue This Weekend

Road tennis fans are invited to come out and support players from around the island as the preliminaries of the National Sports Council???s Island wide Road Tennis Championship continues this weekend.

Tomorrow, Saturday, November 16, St. Lucy and St. Peter players will compete at Road View, St. Peter beginning at 6.00 p.m. while players from St. Thomas will compete at Farmers, on Sunday, November 17, from 9:30 a.m.

Also on Sunday, St. James road tennis players will display their prowess at Weston St. James, beginning at 7.00 p.m.
