ST. LEONARD???S BOYS??? TO LAUNCH FUNDRAISING PROJECT

As part of its Independence Community Good Deeds programme, the St. Leonard???s Boys??? Secondary School Junior Nation Builders (JNB) will launch a fundraising project called Donate A Dollar Day – Children Helping Children on Monday, November 11.

The launch gets under way from 8:00 a.m. during the school???s assembly at Richmond Gap, St. Michael.

Donate A Dollar Day – Children Helping Children is an initiative which calls for students across the island and members of the public to select a day between November 11 and 22 to donate a dollar to a specific charity.

This year, the fundraiser is in aid of the Hope Foundation, on behalf of children with lupus and sickle cell anemia.
The money will be placed in special collection containers at schools and at various public venues.

Visits will be made to secondary schools by the Hope Foundation volunteers and JNB members who will educate others about lupus and sickle cell anemia, and invite 100 students from each school to take the cause to family and friends in their community, encouraging them to donate a dollar.

President of the Hope Foundation, Shelly Weir, will address the launch and speak to students about lupus and sickle cell anemia while Third Year Head and project initiator, Winston Cumberbatch, will provide the rationale behind the initiative and outline its goals and objectives.

The St. Leonard???s Boys??? Secondary School Junior Nation Builders was formed in November 2012 by Mr. Cumberbatch to celebrate our nation???s 46th Anniversary of Independence.

That year, the project saw over 60 volunteers along with parents and teachers completing 46 acts of community service and goodwill by November 30. The 46 deeds included a clean-up at Folkestone Park; visits to seven senior citizens homes; donation of food hampers to seven needy persons in the community; the presentation of books to seven nearby primary schools; donation of clothes to the Salvation Army and the Seventh Day Adventist Community Service Department for the needy; and the donation of a television to the children???s ward at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.??
