A Day for Teachers on Friday

Teachers??? Professional Day will be observed this Friday, October 17, and all schools will be closed.

The Ministry of Education has encouraged principals and teachers to organise activities for the development of their institutions.

The day is part of the activities to mark Education Month, which is being celebrated under the theme: Charting A Course to New Horizons In Education.

St. James North Council Hosts Chikungunya Lecture

Residents of St. James North are invited to a lecture/discussion on chikungunya and dengue fever, to be held on Saturday, October 18, at the Weston Resource Centre, Weston, St. James, beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Hosted by the St. James North Constituency Council, the session is part of the national effort to promote awareness about these diseases and disseminate information on how individuals can protect themselves against them.

St. George South Council to Host Health Awareness Programme

The St. George South Constituency Council, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Department of Emergency Management (DEM), will host a number of activities intended to educate and inform constituents.

On Saturday, October 18, beginning at 5:30 a.m., there will be an early morning health walk at the Ellerton Community Centre, Ellerton, St. George.

Then, on Saturday, October 25, from 3:30 p.m., residents who are knowledgeable on surrounding districts will be invited to join members of the DEM in a walk-through the constituency to target vulnerable areas and persons.

The walk will be divided into two groups, with the first group beginning at Byde Mill, St. George, and the second starting at Ellerton Community Centre.

On Wednesday, October 29, a discussion on chikungunya will be held at the Ellerton Community Centre at 7:30 p.m. Personnel from the Environmental Health Department of the Six Roads Polyclinic will make a presentation and answer questions.
